OUR HISTORY

What's in the name?

Welcome to Sequoyah National Golf Club, an enterprise of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The name Sequoyah comes from a Cherokee man named Sequoyah, also known as George Gist, who was born around 1790 in what is now the state of Tennessee. Sequoyah was inspired to develop a system of writing, known as a syllabary, after he saw the talking leaves of the Euro-Americans. Sequoyah is the only individual in history of mankind to develop a system of writing where none previously existed.
